2021 Caldor Fire Support

The Caldor Fire broke out on August 14, 2021, in El Dorado County. Fueled by drought, hot weather, and high winds, the fire quickly grew in size. E.T.A. was deployed to assist with animal evacuations. We also were tasked with feeding and watering animals left in impacted areas but not needing evacuation.

ETA worked well over cross-county lines with other agencies.

On August 23, 2021 Evacuation Teams of Amador (ETA) works with Animal Control from Tuolumne, Placer, and El Dorado counties, along with Code 3 Associates from Colorado to transfer animals in the parking lot of Pleasant Valley School in El Dorado County.

As the fire grew, so did the evacuation orders, warnings, and road closures. While portions of Amador County have been under Evacuation Warnings in the week of August 30th, 2021, Amador was issued it’s first Mandatory Evacuation Orders “Red” in portions of the Upcountry area.

This is some of the many, many animals and volunteers from the Caldor Fire.

E.T.A. set up a temporary evacuation area at Laughton Ranch while the Evacuation orders were at a “Yellow” warning. We made many, many truck & trailer runs to pick up animals before the fire cut off access. Our Evacuation Center housed over 600 animals. They received veterinarian care for both Large & small animals throughout the days in our care.
